Whenever BHP Syndrome strikes me, I go online and look at all of those senior bassets longing for a home to spend their golden years.   
 
If you feel you cannot over BHP Syndrome, then I suggest contacting your local basset rescue.  While they might not have any available at the moment, get yourself on their waiting list.
