I talked to Washington Co. ACO Wayne Thomas this morning. He is the officer
handling Annie's case, and he says Annie will get the justice she deserves.
Thomas is going to ask that Randall Treadway get 30 days of jail time, a
couple of weeks of community service and pay full restitution for Annie's
bills. He is also going to ask the DA to charge Randall Treadway's mother
with cruelty as well.

He is going to request that Randall Treadway relinquish ownership of another
dog he has, a schnauzer. "I'm taking his other dog away from him," he said.

Thomas said most people in this situation plead out to avoid going to trial,
and that he will not accept a weak plea that lets either Treadway off with a
slap on the hand. Because this is Treadway's first offense, the fine itself
is only $100 if he is found guilty of animal cruelty. If he commits a second
offense, it is a felony punishable by up to a year in prison.

"He will pay for this," Thomas said. "This kind of stuff isn't going to go
unpunished. I won't let it. I will make sure (Randall Treadway) spends some
time in jail."

I have to say, I was impressed with Thomas after talking to him. He was
well-spoken and righteously angry about Annie's treatment.

He said when he went to cite Randall Treadway for animal cruelty earlier
this week, Treadway didn't even ask how Annie was doing. He just wanted to
know if it was going to cost him money. Treadway also claimed Annie had only
been in the harness and in the kennel a month or two.

"I know that is total baloney," Thomas said.

Thomas says Randall Treadways' court appearance is set for 9 a.m .Feb 25 at
the session court in Jonesbourough, Tenn. We're going to be sure to have
some BRBR volunteers there. I know Janet Winn will be there.

Stay tuned. I will keep you guys updated. Your emails, phone calls and
letters to county officials have made it highly unlikely Randall Treadway
will get off lightly. The locals know the eyes of the dog rescue community
are on them.
