At our house we have always licenced our dogs. The vet does the rabies and
then we buy the tag. Its from the county so the dog only has one tag that
shows proof of rabies and licencure within that county. Here the tag has a
number on it. If the dog ever gets out (accidents happen) and was picke dup
or dropped off at AC they would immediately be able to get ahold of my
contact information. Yes, Ruger is microchipped and wears a tag with his
microchip info along with a tag offering a reward with our phone number.
However, we feel that following the licencing laws are just another part of
owning a dog. We pay for quality food, excellent vet care, toys, beds,
leashes, collars, coats... A licence is just another part of owning a dog.
Plus, if hw were to get out of the house without it, get picked up by AC
they charge a HUGE fine for any dog found without a licence. The $10 we pay
every 3 years (three year rabies shot) is no big deal. I helps the county,
helps keep him safe and keeps me from ever having to pay an enormous fee if
he were found without it.
