This is in response to Denise's post regarding dog bites. I had a corgi Oliver (ATB) for ten years. He was a very mean tempered dog with everyone except me. Oliver loved me and me only and he made it clear that it was just a pack of two! I did NOT let him around small children and when I walked him he was muzzled. He did bite my sister and daughter and that was when I realized I had two choices--put him down or keep him and be very careful with him around other people. I cannot tell you how many times I walked him and people , seeing the muzzle, would still come up to me to pet him (he was a cute little bugger) and he is snarling and getting ready to lunge. I learned to control him and cautioned people that he was not a nice dog. I was responsible for HIS Actions. He was my Pet for want of a better word. I loved that dog and I was aware that when I got him he had been abused and starved and had two broken front paws to prove it. I made the choice to keep him knowing tha
t he could and would bite people if I did not control for it. Yes I was hyper vigilante with him around people but as a responsible pet owner, that is my responsibility. You did the right thing by turing the dog and the owners into the hospital. I can't speak for anyone but myself, if you chose to keep a dog that bites, then you are responsible for his or her actions. I am not sure I rehabilitated Oliver, I just controlled for his behavior and made sure I had a rider on my home-owners insurance policy covering dog bites.
Sorry for being so long winded but this hit close to home for me.
