We are sending heart healing drool over the loss of Hennessy and congratulations on Stella for finding a wonderful new home.

Sandy - part of an ovary can be left behind during surgery but you would probably see her act like she was in heat before now. It is also possible to have aberrant sites of gonadal tissue - basically there is tissue somewhere in her body that isn't supposed to be there that is generating female sex hormones. There is testing for the levels of these hormones but it doesn't tell you where the hormone is coming from. Also there are sex hormones produced in low amounts from the adrenal glands (small glands located near the kidneys). I would take her to the vet to see if this is hormonal or behavioral or other.

Nadine - I'm so glad that Jill is there to help you. Many times people just don't know what to say or do to provide comfort but dogs always do.

Heart healing drool for Kristi and family. They are so good about letting you know when it's time. But for some reason it doesn't make it any easier... I hope the memories you shared for 15 years will help ease the pain.

Maggie - I'm not saying that it is this for sure but worms can cause coughing. Part of some worms' life cycle is migrating in the lungs and they are coughed up and swallowed and enter the GI tract. If she isn't on a monthly dewormer it probably wouldn't hurt to get her stool checked. Again this is just one of many causes, but I'm glad she seems be to be doing better.

Sweenie - Sounds like anxiety based behavior. Consult your vet - you might want to try a trial run of anti-anxiety medication.

Garlic and onions - Okay so onions are much more toxic but garlic in large quantities can also be toxic. Basically it causes red blood cells to burst and the dog becomes anemic. Although there are health benefits of garlic I'm always super careful with it. Dogs love both but they like to drink anti-freeze too, so it doesn't mean it's good for them.

Also - Are you a Drooler? Saw tan Jeep on Allens Lane in Philadelphia (Mt. Airy) with a "Proud Owner of an Adopted Basset Hound" sticker next to an American Flag sticker. Also a black and white oval Basset Hound sticker. It was July 4th around 5pm near the Allens Lane Center.
