[Dailydrool] Bassets are scent hounds

I don't think anyone should feel bad if their basset, or other scent hound, actually kills another small animal. It is in their breed and instinct to do so. They are hunters, along with the beagles, coonhounds, etc. My beagle and bluetick coonhound are definitely hunters, especially the coonhound. The bassets fit into this category as well. That is why the nose is to the ground. I don't encourage them to stalk out and run down rodents or other small animals, but they want do it anyway, anytime we step outside. I would never punish them if they actually caught something. It is who they are and what they were bred to be.
