Marty, shame on you for being so scathing over your watch dogs.  Don't you realise the busy day that is involved in being a basset hound - sleeping, eating, sleeping, scritching, sleeping, snoring, eating and more sleeping?  When is there time to guard the house?  However, if you are talking of a fridge door opening - well, they might just hear that......
