Bill here, press agent/personal trainer to Miss Angela Basset, Droop and Drool Diva of Wichita and Sedgwick County

Miss Angela is pretty much following her diet. All the neighbors (those who invite her into their houses) are not on alert that she will counter cruise if there is any food left out. She gets only her prescription diet food. This is good. She hates it. She is eating less than the doctor said to give her. Her weight is actually coming down.

The other half of any weight loss program is exercise. Here, Miss Angela is actively reisisting. Two of the last four times I have tried to get her out and walking, she has refused, slipping her leash, going flat basset or otherwise
letting me know that she does not wish to walk. Of course, the heat has come to Kansas and it has been in the 90s, but I have taken her out before 9 in the morning when it is only in the 70s. Despite this, twice this week, I have had to walk alone.

While I still give Angela treats for good performance, I now break them in half or give her "Lean" treats, so she only gets half the calories in treats that she did previously. She seems perfectly happy with this part of her new regimen.

If I can get 5-7 pounds off her, she will lose more while I am on vacation in early July since she will be living with two bigger, more active dogs. Maybe by the first of September, she will be down to the 48 pound target the vet has set for her. And I will be down twenty or thirty pounds. And pigs will fly.

Bill (doG, I miss chocolate chip cookies)
