I took Miss Marley to the vet in town today because I saw that she had two big patches on her butt without hair, like someone had shaved it off. I had seen some small thing spots on her tummy but these scared me. 200$ later she is on antibiotics, has medicated shampoo and has itchy spots of unknown origin. The vet ruled out mites and fleas. Said it might be ringworm which scares me with the contagious factor. It doesn't look like ringworm does on people. She took hair samples to send to the lab. Whatever it is it is most likely bacterial so the antibiotics will get started on it now.

The fun will really begin tomorrow when I give her a bath and have to keep the suds on her for 10 minutes. At least we have shower doors so we can be all soapy and cozy in the tub together. It must be the soapy shower torture. She is the basset that has to have several baths outside because as soon as she is rinsed off she finds the stinkiest, dirtiest place in the yard to roll in.

When we got home from the vet, the choir was singing just inside the door. Dan(son#2) informed me that they howled the whole time we were gone. He was not amused. I am also cutting her food back, way back, because the little darling is gaining weight and looks like a basset blimp at the moment. The vet was not amused. Neither were the basset siblings because they are all getting smaller rations. Ninja was very unhappy. She is not in the blimp neighborhood and doesn't see why she should have less food. No one will starve here. They just think they will.

Feeling itchy in Illinois( even the mom is itchy feeling right now)

We are sending drool to Nicks loved ones. He sounds like a lovely old guy and we are so sorry for your loss.
