I sat down at my pc a few minutes ago to chill out after getting
REALLY upset with a neighbors reaction to Jill the Bagel.

Please recall--we have been on vacation 1300 miles away and Jill has
been at our daughters in St. Louis, 400+ miles from home. We arrived
home along with Jill yesterday.

Today I put Jill out at 2:00 p.m. The door is always left ajar so she
can come back in. She got tangled in a bush and couldn't let herself
in; she barked for LESS THAN 30 seconds (Yes, I time her barks and by
30 seconds I respond in order to stay a good neighbor.) My neighbor
across the street banged on his window and shook his fist at me.

Ten minutes later a police officer was at my door with a complaint
about a vicious and noisy dog. Jill, who shies away from everyone,
who is not allowed to bark beyond 30 seconds. . .
Unbeknownst to my STUPID NEIGHBOR, the responding officer and I have a
history (a great one; he was my boss for two years, one of my board
members for 4 more. We have served on countless committees together
and we would truly take a bullet for the other.). The neighbor was
outraged, clearly stating the dog has kept him up almost every night
this winter, and in fact, has been left outside everyday I she go off
to work. My friend firmly told the neighbor: "Nadine is seriously
disabled and physically challenged. She continues to be retired and
unemployed. They have been out of town for over 6 weeks. I've spent
many a day over coffee with her and several nights when she was too
ill to be left alone and her husband had to be out of town on
business. Jill is the quietest basset I have ever seen. That dog is
often her only lifeline. If I EVER receive a complaint from you
against this fine woman I will personally haul your ass into jail for
harassment!"

Life is good, as is my friend and my dog
