Jennifer,
I am so very sorry to hear this. I am only giving you what happened with
our Bessie. I don't want to scare you, but She had several spots on her
skin, diagnosed with hemangiosarcoma. We did surgeries as we found them to
remove them. But eventually she developed a mass on her spleen, we were
not expecting to find it either, was a surprise as you know how stoic they
can be. We ended up in the ER, needing to do an emergency spleenectomy as
she was bleeding out. They did a blood transfusion and went into surgery,
she died on the table, even with them trying to resuscitate her. We were
told that when they opened her up, much blood was lost, that had already
bled out from the spleen. We were not in the operating room with her, and
it just killed me that she was without us being there with her.
I am not going to tell you what to do, but we did decide right then and
there, that we would not make that decision again, if we were in that
situation. Bessie was out very first Basset and was so very sweet, she
deserved to be let go with us being there, and I still feel awful about it,
5 yrs later. I don't tell you any of this to scare you, I know you already
are terrified of losing Lucy. I you want to share what we went through.
My heart goes out to you and Lucy, as you make your own decisions.

hugs and drool to all in need,
wen
