I'll respond to John Falk's message. Queen Lola couldn't ride in the
carriage because the (dirty word here) people who set up the parade allowed
a 'stage coach' with riders shooting real guns, followed by a group of
clowns shooting cap pistols to be right in front of the carriage and 400
basset hounds. The shooting scared the living daylights out of Lola and we
had to stop the carriage and let her get off because her mom couldn't hold
her. The gunshots also frightened the horse pulling the carriage. I,
personally know this because I was riding in the carriage with my
granddaughter and my King Elwood. Those people should have been at the
beginning of the parade, not right in front of us. We complained to Jeremy
Ruckhaber who was in charge of running the parade but he said they had every
right to shoot the guns. (The police said the guns on the stage coach were
illegal.)

Other than that, the parade was a huge success and the bassets following the
carriage seemed to have a good time. We'll discuss this with the 'powers
that be' and, ask them to put noisy entries at the front. We always bring
up the rear. Incidentally, Jeremy Ruckhaber has retired from the Birmingham
Parade Committee and the Michigan Basset Waddle effective May 21, 2009.
