Momma here, it's been a crazy couple of days!! On monday night, I spent 4
hrs. driving Slater Dog around. Went to the vet in the morning before class,
to have some more fluid drained from his abdomen, and vetman said that he'd
need his blood pressure checked, and also to go to a specialist for an
ultrasound, to make sure all was well w/the tummy. Well, that turned out to
be a 4 hr. ordeal!! (They had an emergency well I was waiting for the
results... sadly, the other doggie didn't make it...) The long & short of
Slater's diagnosis is that they said his right kidney "looks weird" and they
thought they saw a tumor, but it turned out to just be part of the intestine
that was thickened. All the other organs looked okay. The specialist vetman
said that this means either the protein is leaking from his kidneys or his
intestines, and only uber expensive, and rather invasive tests will tell for
sure...

It's because of that, and the discussion w/my vet (and another $450 of vet
bills) that I've had to make the decision to return him to his rescue. I
really don't want too, but I'm unable to provide the more specialized care
he needs! The rescue has assured me that they will do everything necessary
to get him sorted out. I'm still not happy about this whole situation; this
is a new condition, but he's literally been to the vet's at least once a
week since I got him! (He came to me w/infected ears, nasty teeth, long
nails & a lump that needed removing.) I'm really not happy that he never got
the chance to be a healthy hound. But, hopefully they can get his condition
diagnosed & sorted out. I just wish the same could happen for the HUGE hole
in my pocketbook...

So, tomorrow evening, please keep Slater Dog in mind, as he makes his trek
southward, to get the vetwork he needs done, and that all will go well, and
they'll figure out what's wrong with him. I know he'll be in good hands,
he's going back to his foster momma who loves him dearly! Meanwhile, I'll
have a big bubba dog sized hole in my heart, as will Joey Hound!
