Hello and Happy Thanksgiving to all hounds and hound lovers.  I am very distressed over my basset hound, The Stink.  Yesterday she started having trouble walking.  It's like her back legs will just give out on her and she falls down on her butt.  When she tries to walk, she kind of sways from side to side.  She is 11 years old and has always had trouble with weak back legs and arthritis.  She is currently on Rimadyl for that.  She does not act as if she is in pain and does not vocalize when she falls down.  I called the vetman, and of course he was out for the holiday.  The staff called him for me, and he said that it sounds as if she may have injured her back.  I can't get in to see him until Monday.  He said if she gets to where she can't walk at all or vocalizes or acts as if she is in pain to take her to the emergency clinic.  If anyone out there has experience with this type of situation, I would appreciate any information you can give me.  I accompanied her outside this morning, and she did her business and navigated the steps by herself.  She walked from the kitchen to the living room just now and got in her bed by the computer.  The vet said I could try using a towel to support her back end.  I tried that and when I did, she DID vocalize, so I don't think that will work for us.  Thanks for any help and drool you can send our way.
