Anne and Quincey,

Casey (ATB) was diagnosed with lymphoma back in 2006. He was passing a
mass when he went to the bathroom. The idiot emergency vet thought he
had a prolapsed rectum and treated him for that. He was going to have
surgery to repair the prolapse and during surgery the vet found the
tumor. He was really miffed at the emergency vet. Anyway, the doctor
thought he would be a great candidate for chemo, so we did treat him.

Chemo is different for dogs than for people, and they do get good
results with lymphoma. Casey really didn't get sick, but his WBC would
drop to dangerous levels and we'd have to postpone treatment for a week.
He went every week for six week, and then every other week. He would
be a bit lethargic the day after a treatment, but other than that he
actually did quite well. There were a lot of decisions made prior to
treatment. In our case, we did not want to be constantly cutting him.

Chemo isn't a cure for lymphoma. They aim for a good, long remission.
We had Casey for seven months after his diagnosis. A lot of the other
dogs the vet was treating had been in remission for over a year and she
had one basset that had been cancer-free for five years.

Good luck!!

Debbie
