[Dailydrool] yucky chin

Well, not the chin per se, more like the folds under the chin. I was messing
with Slater the other day, when I saw a brown mark on his neck, so I took
off his collar so I could get a better look at it... It was brown, kinda
slimy, and stank! I thought great, he rolled in pooh, but it was isolated in
that one spot. I think what really happened is that when he had his cone,
all his dribbling collected there, and it got kind of gross. (And, I did
chase him around & wipe down his cone, but obviously I didn't get it all).

I wiped it down as best as I could, and it's no longer slimy, and smells
slightly better. Does this sound like an infection in the jigglers under the
neck? I had heard before to get some benzo peroxide, like what is in acne
meds, to help treat the "itchy flews" topically, and I'm curious, what sort
of effect will that have? I got some from the drugstore, and tried a bit out
on him this evening, but want to watch for signs of improvement or of it not
working or getting worse. I'd like to not take him to the vet if possible,
to save on money, and they're probably sick of dealing w/me on a regular
basis. (Don't get me wrong, if it needs vet care, I'll take him in, but if
it's something common that can be taken care of w/o taking him in, I'd
rather exhaust that avenue first!)

Anyone else ever have a similar problem? It's like the fur has been tinted
brown, and the skin looked (just slightly, not really red) slightly inflamed
at first, but it's much better now that I cleaned it. I also left his collar
off so that the skin could breathe a bit more. Slater's extra droopy
(especially since he's down about 4 lbs!) so when the collar is on, even
though it's not tight, it still kind of holds everything under the neck up &
together (and trust me, the collar is not tight! He can slip it if he tries!
That's why I got him a harness.) which probably didn't help the gooey neck
thing any. Any info would be appreciated, I just want to try & get this big
beluga boy up to 100% so he can be a happy, healthy hound!
