[Dailydrool] Oswald's first Gotcha Day Anniversary!

I've posted about Oswald a few times, but since yesterday was Oswald's
first Gotcha Day Anniversary, I figure I should tell all of you a little
bit more about him. When we adopted Oz last year, we got an estimate of
his age to be 2-4. He seemed to be a bit on the older end of that, so
we went ahead and estimated that he was 5 instead. He hasn't ever had
to visit the vet the whole year we've had him because he got all his
shots before we got him, so when he went back for his boosters and his
annual exam this year, we asked our vet to give an estimate of his age
and he thinks Oz is 6-7, so we decided that yesterday would be his 7th
birthday as well as his 1st Gotcha Day anniversary. Happy Birthday Oz!
I told my family that I found out my dog is older and they were
expressing their sympathy or sadness for me that he was old, but I
didn't really think of it as a negative thing. He's our guy no matter
what, so who cares if he's 7 or 3. He's still our awesome doggy. So
for his special day we took him to the pet store and got him some bones,
a squeaky duck (which already has lost half the stuffing), and a can of
senior dog food for a treat for dinner. We also got him a fancy new
name tag that jingles all over the place. He got a few very long walks
too. He's gotten so much more playful over the past year. When we
first got him, he was just a very inactive, chunky, short guy who didn't
like toys and didn't bark much...now, just a year later, he's changed
SOOOO much. He now will play with stuffed animals (especially if they
make an animal noise) and a few plastic toys. He's lost about 4 lbs,
and has a waistline instead of looking like a sausage. He's a lot more
vocal too. Today for example, he was barking for about 20 minutes
straight until I figured out that he wanted me to try to take his bone
away from him so he could run away barking with his bone still in his
mouth (he's the only dog I've ever met that will bark with his mouth
full). As soon as he's had enough of running away from me he just laid
down and chewed the bone up for a while. At least I'm starting to
understand his language. My husband Keith and I are both so grateful we
can share our life with Oswald. I don't even really remember what life
was like before him. It just feels like he's been there all along. We
love you Oz! (and we tell him all the time too!)
