Good Morning...
This is my very first reply to the DD but I have been a loyal reader for years now.... I have a Sweet 10 year old Basset, Sissy who is the Queen boss in my house of 2 dogs and 3 cats... I am replying to "Scary Morning" sent in by Michele...

My Sissy does have siezurres and has been on 150 mg of Phenobarbital twice daily and seems to keep it under control most of the time.... I can always tell when it's gonna be a bad night... She just doesnt seem herself and always seems very confused...

Last night was one of those nights... She wanted to go to bed early and thats unusual for her... She likes us all to go to bed at the same time and will go down the hall and bark at us to come to bed....

When she has her seizures she trashes about for about a minute and then pants heavily for about 20 minues...Then she wakes up and paces around like she is dizzy and then will have about 2 more siezures before she can finally settle down and go to sleep... It's hurts my heart so to see her have one but my Vet assures me that as long as she is where she cant hurt herself, there is nothing to do but talk to her and try and comfort her coming out of it... Then the seizures might not happen again for another 4-5 weeks... and we never know when they will hit her.... She is on a pretty high dose of phenobarbital but the vet does lab every few months and says she is within a good range for her weight 62. pounds.
So I understand what Michele is going through... Does anyone else out there in DD land have this with their babies and if so, any suggestions that have been helpful ?

Thanks for any advice and support.. I love the Drool and read it daily.

Karen...slave to Sissy (basset) Whitlow (cocker spaniel)and the 3 kitties.
