[Dailydrool] Are they smart...

There are always exceptions to every rule or generalization - but hounds as
a group usually do poorly on the intelligence scales you read. The
intelligence scales test how quickly and well dogs learn to do tricks and
learn obedience. Problem is, all hounds are hunting dogs, they were bred to
go out in the field and think and make decisions for themselves. They can
learn tricks and obedience, but usually they're not interested. If you are
a dog who is a thinker and decision maker, then that's what you're going to
do, you're going to look at the human who wants you to learn to do something
you think is stupid, and you're going to say, nope, nap time. Unless, of
course, there is food involved - and it had better be tasty food.

Are they smart. my Gracie tore her ACL in early January, and this injury is
extremely painful. That's how I first knew something was wrong, one morning
she was acting odd, and then started quivering all over, and I knew this was
a major pain signal, so off to the Vet we went immediately. That's also
what I watched for while we were rehabbing, her leg would start quivering
when she was getting tired, and at night sometimes she'd shake a little if
she was overly tired. So what happened? Miss Smarty Pants figured out that
I was real concerned any time she started quivering and would give her a
treat (with medicine in it). So now every evening at 10:30 PM Miss Stinker
comes and lays down by my feet and starts to quiver all over. She does this
for about 5 minutes, watching me very carefully the entire time. Since I'm
on to her, it doesn't work and all she gets is a few pets, so she quivers
(and whines too) for about 5 minutes, then gives a snort, stops quivering
and gets up and stomps off to bed. Oh yeah, this is a dumb dog.
