[Dailydrool] SOD Boswellia

Greetings droolers, I am a sporadic reader, but I love this forum, and have laughed, cried and learned much over the years. I am in the middle of a career change, and a student in veterinary technology. I read a couple of posts mentioning "SOD Boswelia" - which I have not heard of, but one slave mentioned her basset is 100 pounds. Two thoughts immediately came to mind: first, always check with your vet before introducing any new medication or supplement. Second, medication doses should be based on what the animal should weigh when the animal is obese, because fat does not metabolize the medication the same way as lean muscle, and dosing on an obese weight can lead to overdose. I did a quick google of SOD Boswelia for side effects, and found some info at
http://www.chinese-herbs.org/boswellia/boswellia-side-effects-and-interactions.html.

As I said, I am just a student, and have not heard of this medication. It sounds wonderful though, and I think I will investigate it for my own use!

Susan, slave to Charlie

> Wow Sandi what an adventure thank you for sharing. Sometimes we have no idea what exactly rescues do. Dawn sounds like an angel. In fact she is an angel to her hounds. Thank goodness we have people like her to care for the older hounds and give them a nice life.
> I know what you mean about wanting to strangle people through the phone I get that way often.
> We went to the Pet Expo last weekend and I wanted to share something that happened to me.
> A gentleman (and I use the term loosely) walked up to me and said I am with the Min Pin rescue, yeah I had Min Pin puppies for sale and couldn't sell them so I relinquished them to the rescue and I volunteer so I can visit with them.
> Okay I thought so you are stupid but I did not say anything I just smiled. Then he said I have a basset pregnant with ten puppies, we had a sonagram done to find out how many we were going to have so we could start selling them before they are born and I just wanted to ask you if we cannot sell them all can I give them to the Basset rescue? My Vice- President wanted to slap him but she just contained herself and glared at me to see what I would say. I said you know there are enough dogs in the shelter we should not be breeding our dogs and making more who might be homeless someday. I do not know if I would have space we are full right now there are so many dogs needing homes. ( of course I would take them but wanted to say something that might spark a brain cell in his stupid head)
> You would think being in rescue someone would know that. He just walked away smiling grabbing one of our cards so he would have our number.
> Then I saw a rescue at the Expo with an in heat female and unnuetered males in their booth.
> There is no way to fix stupid.
> Thank goodness most rescues are like Daphneyland where the hounds are actually treasured.

> I have been on and off thinking about trying this with Jean Paul. It has been great walking weather lately, and Jean Paul walked Mon. and Tues., took a day off Wed. (because on Wed., he was chased a ball toss in the yard, a game he loves, and he took a big tumble), and today, I tried to get him to walk but he really had no interest in doing so. He is overweight and has arthritis. He is slowly losing weight, but I think the weather pressures are triggering his arthritic pain. He had severe pano when he was young, with episodes up until he was almost 4. He is almost 9 now. He sees his Vet on a regular basis. At one point today, he was walking very loopy, as if he were drunk, crossing his front legs, and his back end was not as strong as usual. I didn't want to panic and rush him to the Vet, because he has done this before, and I have a small surplus of Rimadyl for him in the event of one of these episodes, but with all the mention of SOD Boswellia, I am strongly conside
> ring to try it. What would the dose be for an overweight (100 lb) arthritic basset be? Are there potential side effects that I should be on the look out for? Jean Paul is basically healthy otherwise. I just hate to see him cripple up like he does some times.
> My deepest condolences to those who have lost the love of a beloved pet. I am still playing catch up. Heart healing drool to you all.
> My enormous drool supply for those in need also. Wow, there is plenty of this here.
> Thank you to all who posted photos from Ocean City. I cried when I saw the memory heart.I wanted to come so much, but I think, to see the heart would have shut me down right away, and I would have been a huge drag for the rest of the days. I am beginning to let go, though, now, and maybe that candle helped, as well as Pierre jr. Jr. walks everyday, and he loves it, and he goes on a "private" because it is easier to train him this way. We go longer and longer distances each time, and he is a robust walker, and I am getting good exercise with him. Yesterday, a woman, an elder person, dog lover, wanted to pet Jr. as she used to pet Sr. She didn't notice the difference as she thought Jr. was Sr. We talked about pets, as I knew that she took such great care of her Bichon with diabetes, blind, and 19 years old who just passed recently. She really wants another pet, but she is discouraged by her age. Next time I see her, I will suggest that she rescue a Sr. pet.

MacKenzie's put on a few since this picture was taken and Gallagher has filled out some. Of course we now have to explain to Miss Poppy that she wasn't here when the picture was taken. Next year she can rule! These "yankee" bassets are settling rather well into low country life in North Carolina! As the days warm up the evening walks take longer and longer. No land speed records are in danger.

> I was reading a Guidepost magazine of my husband's that had an article in it from a man who writes about dogs going to Heaven. He got into people who had dreams about their beloved pets who saw them in Heaven or young again, playing and healthy.
> I am a firm believer in not only God and Heaven but that our pets do go to Heaven and await us when it's our time.(Hopefully we arrive there depending on how we lived our lives here!)
> I lost my Bichon of 15 years 2 months ago ( hence our newest arrival, Henry, out 5 month old basset puppy) and I am positive that he is in Heaven.
> I find it very interesting the people I have spoken with on this subject who all agree that they believe that dogs in fact do go to Heaven. There is always debate on issues like these with people ( mostly none dog people.) And I have also found that people who have never had a dog are a completely different breed of people all together, I know you'll all agree on that one. Dogs teach us so much, if we listen to them. Unconditional love! I can come home from work or come in from being out somewhere and not be in the greatest mood and all the dogs I have ever had have always greeted me with a smile and wagging tails. I don't get that from my husband and children!! LOL! And that bad mood I had all of the sudden lessens into a lighter mood when I kiss and hug my four legged friend who is so excited to see me.
> I am sure that everyone reading this can tell special stories of their dogs that could inspire even the greatest skeptic. I love reading inspirational stories of how dogs have helped people in ways that no human ever could. I also believe that dogs understand us more than we realize. I'm not just talking about sit Fido or play dead, Sparky; I'm talking REALLY understanding us.
> I know I shared this on the Drool before, but when we saw Henry and decided that he would be a part of our family, I told him that I would be his new mommy and that we would return for him the next morning to bring him home. He looked straight into my eyes and I knew in my heart that he understood what I was saying. The next morning my daughter and I went to pick him up and when he saw us, he got so excited and wagged his tail so hard that his whole body wagged with it and he jumped up to get to us as if to say, "You told me that you were coming for me and I waited for you and now you're here and I'm going home to love you for as long as I live!" I will go to my grave knowing that if he could have talked, that would have been exactly what he would have said. It was like he spoke, not with words, but with his heart to where I heard him with my heart. Words can't really explain something like that where you know what happened but can't explain it with words.
> Anyway, if any of you out there have any inspirational stories of your sweeties, I would love to hear them. I like collecting stories like these and send them to people I know will be edified by them. And by the way, to all who are grieving the loss of their pets, know that I can sympathize and also have faith that you will meet one day, once again, greeted with wags, love and kisses that special angel dog that was always there for you.
