Penny Lynn here, pawin' at ya from high atop the mesas of Northern New
Mexico.

A front page headline in Friday's Los Alamos Monitor screams "Dog
Survives 80-foot Bayo Canyon Plunge. Squirrel leads canine into harm's
way"!!! Although Brody is not a basset, but merely a 60-pound Rottie mix,
the Squirrelistans apparently felt he was worthy of attack. While hiking
with his hooman Brody "spotted a squirrel scurrying across the path ahead
of them. The varmint disappeared over the side of the canyon with Brody
in close pursuit." So writes the reporter, who at least recognizes the
danger the Squirrelistans represent!! Fortunately for Brody, the canyon
on that side is a steep slope rather than a straight drop, so he slid
most of the way down and was rescued by the Fire Department's high-angle
and confined space team. Injuries Brody incurred in his attempt to
eradicate the Squirrelistan member were a broken tail and a punctured
lung, requiring an overnight stay in the emergency clinic. He is now
recovering at home with his hoomans. Moi feels that Brody deserves the
PBF "burple heart" award for his alertness and quick response to the
threat, not considering possible harm to himself while helping to protect
the community from the invaders!! Hip, hip hooray to all our valorous
canines in our glorious cause!!!!

Semper fido and drool to all those in need,
Penny Lynn and chief scribe Sandy
