Hi Leslie,

I have been researching natural remedies for heartworm - you may recall we adopted a HW positive Basset from Kentucky (Hamilton Ackerman Foghorn). I try to keep all of my Bassets chemical free and truly believe in alternatives and have worked personally with Marina. With homeopathic's they will not "kill" the circulating microfiliaria (sp.) and thus will put your other dogs at risk potentially. These eggs are floating in the bloodstream and if a mosquito bites the infected Basset and then injects this into one of your other dogs there is potential of infecting your other dogs.

We are using a more recent treatment, the monthly heartgard with doxycycline. I can send you over info if you want. We are working with a vet who studied under the vet who first came up with the dual doxy/monthly heartgard treatment and so far Hamilton is responding really well without the pain and risk of the massive injections. All treatments have risks/benefits.

Homeopathic's will possiblity decrease the longevity of the worms that exist in his heart but again will not remove the eggs from his bloodstream.

Cassandra
