[Dailydrool] Experience with Hill's, Royal Canin

Marquis (lab) was on ID prescription diet for years to control his sensitive stomach. It was the best thing other than the cheap Eagle brand dog "feed" (sold at farm distributors) that he was on as a youngster. We had to switch because I moved to a city with no farm distributors. He stopped liking the ID after his back surgery and diabetes onset last fall - he went through a phase where he wouldn't even eat boiled chicken! Now he eats WD canned and dry - he gets 4-8 meals a day because of weight loss from the diabetes, but it has to be WD because he is immobile.

Frankie (basset) was on Purina and LOVED it until the dermatologist recommended the Royal Canin vegetarian diet to help with his many skin problems. It seems to be helping a great deal. However, he always tried to steal Marquis' ID. :) Frankie would eat anything available, but because of his skin issues, has to be limited to his special diet and bananas.

Roley (mutt) has been eating the cheap Purina her whole life and (KNOCK ON WOOD) is the healthiest of all of our dogs. :) We tried better brands at first and she hated them. She is a nibbler and a picky eater. She used to get ID, and got sick of it.  She dislikes most human foods except pizza crust and garlic bread. :)

Bottom line - I think the food debate is somewhat useless - each dog is different. What works for Marquis, doesn't work for Roley, and what works for them doesn't work for Frankie. :)
