[Dailydrool] Bassets

Being very new to the basset world, I am learning things I never knew about the basset. We have friends that have a basset that say how easy she was to potty train (3 weeks) and how good she listens. Henry on the other hand is still not fully potty trained at almost 7 months of age and listens on occasion. I don't see the display of independence with our friends basset, yet with Henry, even as a buppie, is pretty cat like.

On my end, I find these things extremely frustrating, especially the potty training. We have done everything you droolers have instructed us to do, and still I am cleaning up pee from time to time. It never fails that when you tell people you have a basset, their usual response is after they say how cute they are and how long their ears are,is, "oh, those dogs can be difficult and they are sooo dumb!" To which I chime in by saying,"I can assure you that they are not dumb dogs! What other dog breed is owned by their slaves like those of us who are owned by basset's?"
Anyway, I do at this time feel the frustration with the potty training. (And he was checked out by the vet and no issue's with bladder or urinary tract infections)
I once heard that a basset takes a year before they are potty trained, right here on the drool! I sure as h*ll hope that is wrong!!!
Henry loves to kiss and be hugged and held. He is affectionate. I am no dog trainer by any stretch of the imagination, and I do all the things you and the books tell me to do and I still feel I am messing up somehow, being pretty much ineffective!
Anyway, I'm going to bed now since I am plum worn out!!!
