[Dailydrool] A little bit about Elvis

Hi, everybody! Since I don't submit very often, I guess I'm a "lurker".
Anyway, since Elvis is in the BOTW contest, I've finally found time to tell
you a little about him. My hubby and I adopted Elvis from the GABR in the
wee hours of April 17th, 2006. You see, we got a call from Elvis' foster
mom wondering when we wanted to pick him up and where. Hubby and I were so
excited, we said we would come and get him then. They were only in
Rockford. Just a few short hours away.
So... by 1:30am, we had driven around and around and around trying to find
their street. We weren't even worrying about the house itself, we just
wanted to find the street! The house would be easy after that. Nope! We
wound up in the parking lot of a mall, in front of a clock tower. We called
them up, said we can't find you, we're parked in so and so mall in front of
the big clock tower.
It's now 2am and we spy what we believe to be their BUV. It is!
They brought him over to us and we met him for the first time at 2am in the
parking lot of a mall. He was so little! It had been quite a few years
since we had a puppy (Elvis was all of 18 months old). He had
been relinquished by his original owner because she couldn't afford the
surgery and medical care he needed. He has Glaucoma (has had it since he
was very young, I think). So, he had his left eye removed since it was so
bad it was bulging. It's also in his right eye. I give him steroid drops
twice a day. I hope he never has to have that one removed also. He also
has a cataract in his right eye. So he really doesn't see well as it is.
But he sees enough to get by and if he were to lose that eye...I'd rather
not think about it. He also has seizures. His records show he's had them
for a long time. He get meds twice a day for that as well.
It's now 4 years later. Elvis is a happy, if not quite a bit larger than
before, boy! He Has lots of friends to play with, including his older
basset brother Droopy (12 this Nov.). He has even got a girlfriend in my
mother's English Mastiff "puppy", Delilah (she's not a year old and is AT
LEAST 3 ft. at the shoulder). They LOVE to play.
Despite all of his medical problems, I love him to death! I know a bit
about what he goes through. I've had 3 kidney transplants and am currently
on dialysis waiting on #4. Doctors and needles are a pain whether you're a
basset or the basset's slave.
Well, that's a bit about Elvis. I could write a novel if given the
opportunity, so I'll just stop here. Thanks, for listening and for voting
for Elvis!
Bassets are best (and their slaves aren't too bad, either)!!!

                                                 Laura A. Roberts (slave to
basset brothers Droopy & Elvis)
