I brought Buttercup to a dog training session when she was a puppy hoping for socialization. It did not work out well. Buttercup saw all the puppies and wanted to play, play, play. She was not allowed to and she cried and fussed nearly the entire time. She did learn to sit and and the down. We used the a method where I sat down one the floor and bent my leg so she had to get down and crawl under my leg to get the treat, it worked. Buttercup can sit and lie down on command as long as she sees a treat, otherwise no dice. She sort of learned to walk on leash and stay (at least for the course) I got sick and her training was sporadic at best. She impressed me doing what was expected mostly by watching the other dogs on that last day. After crying and wailing throughout each lesson she finally stopped at the last lesson, curled up and went to sleep. When given her special peanut butter cookie from the teacher she spat it out and would have nothing to do with it. Beau learned to sit watching Buttercup and so does Honey . Roxy(my foster) can sit and give paw. They all need leash work and I feel quilty not working on training but until recently taking a treat out was an invitation to a dog fight. Watching Dogtown and Underdog to Wonderdog makes me want to work with Roxy so she will be more adoptable. She is still learning indoor manners. Stuff like, seeing a hot dog in a person's hand does not mean you take a flying leap to snatch it . I had no idea she could jump that high. Sue K Momperson to Buttercup I am an educted girl Beau Even i can sit for a cookie. Honey I just do what Beau does Roxanne the foster Sitting is ok but I like to help myself, The Tormented kitties and mickey the cockateil Perhaps I should learn to bark too.
