[Dailydrool] "inside" or "outside" dog

I must have led a sheltered life (in New England) - where my dogs were always sheltered from the cold, and I thought most people did the same. We now live in North Carolina (coastal area) and in the last few weeks, several people have asked us "are they inside or outside dogs". We met a beautiful Golden Retriever at Obedience training who is an "outside" dog. It got pretty cold here this winter and I just can't imagine leaving a dog outside. Now on a wonderful sunny day like today, of course they are outside. But at night, they snuggle in their choice of dog beds, nice and warm. Miss Poppy, our senior rescue, spent about 6 years of her life in an outside kennel with no medical care or human fun. Sure, they fed her and gave her water, but not much else. Every time someone asks me this question, I want to say "No, not anymore they aren't? What kind of a person do you think I am."
Now I'm sure there are wonderful people out there that keep dogs outside, but sheltered, warm and loved. However, I keep thinking of what Poppy went through.
Am I an "inside" snob?? Or just another crazy basset lady.
