[Dailydrool] Happy birthday, Happy Harley and Bad-butt Bo of Hawaii

Happy birthday, March 17, to Happy Harley and bad-butt Bo of Hawaii. Today you are 7. Ditto to Odell, and the other three puppies of the Hawaii Six.

It has been an eventful year for Harley and Bo. Harley has had a wonderful time running the basset 500 with his girlfriend, the vagrant chihuahua, Ruby. Ruby's owners reformed and she is now basically a cared for, confined little girl, except when she escapes (about once a week), when she comes to see her true love, Harley, and they cavort all day until I deliver her home at bedtime. A happy time for all. Thank you, Sara Watson, for helping Harley with his barking when his people are not home. It's a little better now.

Bo has had a hard time, starting with his mysterious internal injury on the plane ride to our new home on the big island of Hawaii, and continuing with a terrible year of ulcerative colitis, which started from nowhere and almost claimed his life in December. Two surgeries for hernias later (caused by complications from the colitis), Bo is regaining his own. He has gained back 10 of the 13 pounds that he lost, and has had no new episodes in the past two months. We are still working out his medication regimen, but Bo approves of his now permanent diet of boiled, skinless, boneless chicken breasts, white sticky rice congee (thanks, Anita), and low residue kibble. Bo's brother, Harley, also approves of the new menu. The DH does not approve of the vet costs and grocery costs, but that is life--what's a hound to do? That's what money is for, right?

All in all, you know, it's okay. These are the nicest hounds in the world. Happy birthday, Bo and Harley. (and Odell, too, and Harley 1 in Washington state and Koa wherever you have moved and the unknown sixth puppy wherever you are too). I love you so much.  Val
