I have no experience with corneal ulcers in dogs, but I am an optometrist, and I treat them in people all the time. We NEVER patch an eye with a corneal ulcer. Ulcers can be caused by bacteria, and if you patch the eye, it creates the warm, moist environment in which bacteria love to grow. I'm so sorry that Elmo is having to go through this. Most of the ulcers I treat are caused by people who overwear their contact lenses, so I don't have that much sympathy for them! But I'll make sure that Fred and Annie send lots of ulcer healing drool for poor Elmo.
