Hi Julie:

Just read your email on the Daily Drool about basset quirks.

Amen to everything you wrote.

We are on our fourth consecutive basset hound - Lucie - Devil Dog, OEBE - Princess of Chaos. She is our first female and has so much personality.

Just wanted to second all your statements. Bassets are the quirkiest, most expressive dogs ever, with their voice range and wrinkled brows. With our very first basset, we really didn't know what we were getting into, but we were taught by all of them to cater to all their needs and wishes.

DH and I have been married for 39 years and with the exception of 5 years, have always had one basset. DH says we can't have more than one, since he knows that I would have more - like potato chips, you can't have just one.

With the exception of the first basset who died of a liver tumour at age 5, the other two lived relatively well until they were 13 - a few lumps here and there, nothing major.

So bassets are like other animals and people, most are quite healthy and live well into their senior years and others unfortunately get sick and require more care.

It saddens me to hear of the houndies and buppies who get sick and don't make it. Lots of drool to all those who need it. Lucie will get extra cookies today to get the drool going.

Karen
