"Big Al" was a rescue foster after the fire at our house, by Sandy Gaston . We are staying at their home for this last week before we get to move to our rental for the time of our house being rebuilt from the fire May 3rd. Somehow Sandy Gaston just KNEW we NEEDED to get out of that Extended Stay even though it was a nice Motel provided by Farmers Insurance and we did not have a place lined up to live yet much less utilities,a BED etc!

They had us "housesit" but took three of their Bassets away with them on a week holiday and so we get to stay at the Baroness Ms Toast's "Camp Toast " Our three Basset Hounds can not decide WHICH gas fireplace to clump up in a heap in front of! Sandy cooked a Sunday Dinner (one for the Bassets too) and stocked up the refrigerator with sandwiches and easy cook pot roast meals etc. We like "Big Al" are living like kings!

I wanted to tell you about "Big Al" who hobbled out of the fire smoke and today right now at Sandy Gaston's and NOW is sprawled on a huge orthopedic dog bed at "Camp Toast" ....his forever home now at Sandy's. Al is a lucky dog even though he has a fracture from the bone cancer in his front shoulder. We could write a whole book about us lucky people who got to Foster "Big Al" of all that has happened since he arrived last summer with grave warnings of he had maybe 3 weeks to live. The wonders of love (& homeopathy) are enormas! He..we are so blessed! In fact...Joni Thomas's Minister did an Blessing of the Animals last summer at our house then a Celebration of Al's Life Dinner at the ( www.diningdog.com )

The love and support of our rescue family (yea DD!) has been such a help and comfort. Thank You! XOXOX to you all.

On the night of the fire people came out of nowhere to help and very soon Joni and Patty had it organized with a list of what dogs went where and they were THERE helping moving dogs to our neighbors yard for safely.

Droolers ~ Yep friends were arriving out of no where in the dark night to take dogs! How did they get there so fast! ? The street full of fire trucks and flashing lights (and strong handsome firemen pausing for a minute stepping back with their FIRESUITSSMOKING! I remember watching a fireman's fire suit SMOKE and telling him YOUR SMOKING!!! and he was so cute saying..."Gee THANKS! I'm a smokin SMOKIN HOT guy!" ...

Betsy a DD'er who we did not even know yet just arrived with useful things we needed like a soft Bassetty blanket deodrant and tooth brushes, and later I found out too... money. AND she took "Ramone" a little black Basset mix maybe a special needs kinda dog who as a puppy was thrown across the room at Frat parties like a live doggy baseball. He has "issues" still and had landed up in the rescue program again because his loving guardians had lost their jobs and home. Even though he grred and showed teeth to Betsy she just took Ramone to her home for safe keeping. NOW she has ADOPTED him!

Bron (who created the "Basset Is An Asset" song you probably know from "You Tube") got her fiends and group Trilliam Soul together and they did a beautiful concert and raised about $1,200. DOLLARS for us. Good friends in Meetup and Daily Drool, and the Basset Hound Club of Greater Seattle even came. It was heartwarming and a wonderful time..."Henry" our Basset got to go ~ playing happy go lucky Basset wild puppy eye look and wagging tai with flying soft velvet earpans! What COULD be a terriable time...;is simply NOT. We are so blessed and Thankful to have such wonderful furrends.

"Big Al" is luckiest of all getting to live at "CAMP TOAST his forever home now and we who have the honor of having him in our lives are lucky-er still. You know..the Cancer is still THERE and someday..some sad day he will go to the bridge and yes heart will break. We will be sad that only the end of his life from the time Pat got him till now when Sandy has adopted his 12 yr. old or So self....and his time may be short....it is so wonderful in all.

Someone real famous said once and I live for it..like the to thine own self be true..ya know? "Big Al" who is in great pain with that bone cancer in his front leg...his famous saying like that is this I bet: LIFE IN SHORT MEASURES MAY PERFECT BE.

JP just called and told me how "Big Al" now his big name is "Aleondro" like the song...how he is outside right now rolling on the big grass lawn making a racket of happy Basset talk.

Life is good. Thank You DD'ers for the drool. Hope we can sling some forward too someday.
XOXOXO Love and Woofs frum Lexa

JP and Lexa looking forward to the future
Thank You so much!
