Bill here, press agent/personal trainer to Miss Angela Basset,
Droop and Drool Diva of Wichita and Sedgwick County

Well, we did it! I closed on the new house last week so it's ours.
Miss Angela has been over there twice and seems intrigued,
especially by the back yard and the basset friendly neighbor. I
had a back door with a doggie door installed yesterday. Teach-
ing Angie to use it may be problematic unless copious quantities
of treats are applied.

Yesterday I had a contractor look at a few bad spots on the back
wall. He pulled some siding off and found LOTS of water and
termite damage, so today they're tearing off, tearing out and
getting ready to rebuild the fireplace surround and box. Then
they will have to re-side that side of the house. Wish I could
afford to do the whole house, but that will be later. They also
said that I needed a new roof. Apparently the last owner had
gotten the money from the insurance company for the new roof
and had decided not to have the work done.

Today, I got a call from the gas company. Their line walker (?)
had found a leak and they must tear out part of the driveway
to put in a new line. All the while, I am slowly moving in. I
won't move over to stay until after the Labor Day holiday week-
end. The cable company (those +++++++, as Janet Evanovich
refers to them in one of the Stephanie Plum books) can't get
around to moving the cable, internet connection and phone
until Tuesday. Then maybe Angela and I will make the big
move. I am moving the office and other non-essentials this
week, but the bed, TV, computer, my chair and Angie's couch
will not go until next week. She is showing some anxiety as
I keep carrying boxes out and she whines more than usual
but I presume that this will taper off when we get into the new
house.

When Angela was over at the new place, she seemed to pick
out her perch. Twice she hopped up on the brick hearth and
stretched out for a nap. I will have some pads made for the
hearth to make it a seating area when we aren't burning. I
am sure that she will also respond well to a new dog bed
put in by my bed.

This is an adventure for both of us. She has never lived any
where else. I bought this place in 1975 so I don't much
recall living elsewhere.

Bill (my achin' back!!)
Angela (watching him makes me sleepy)
