[Dailydrool] Peeing in the house

I emailed Linda privately but I wanted to chime in about what Bev had to say
about Proin. She is so exactly correct about the medication. Our Suzy has
been incontinent since she came to us. We realized that she had very
little control when she was about six months old and we thought she had a
UTI. Our vet ran all the appropriate tests and did the cultures and we found
out that she didn't have an infection but you could literally watch the
urine drip from her all the time. Suzy has been on Uriflex or Proin since
then. She takes a pill twice a day and it makes an unbelievable
difference. Suzy is NEVER allowed free run of the house when we're not home.
She was crate abused as a puppy so she has her "bedroom" in a bathroom off
from our family room that has a baby gate across the door so she can see the
other dogs and know that she's not alone. When I'm home, I have found that I
spend my day listening for Suzy's nails on the linoleum because that's the
signal that she's headed for the door. If that door doesn't open right then,
she'll pee. Even with the medication, Suzy easily has to go out at least
twice as often as the other Houndettes but that is still so much better than
it was off the medication. And the medication is not very expensive. I think
it costs about $25/month through our vet and it might be cheaper from an
online pharmacy. It would be well worth any one's time to find out about
this medication if you have a dog who seems to be impossible to train and
you know they don't have any kind of infection. Our vet also told us that
older spayed females will very often become incontinent and usually estrogen
will take care of the problem. Hmmmmm, I wonder if that's something that
some of us two leggers have to look forward to!! Thank doG for
pharmaceuticals!
