[Dailydrool] cystic fibrosis

we had a 10 year old girl basset turned in to a high kill shelter because the grand child has cystic fibrosis... is there a medical reason for this. the old gal was heartbroken and screamed and fought when the owner walked away (didnt even try to rehome her)... she is a great gal... but trying to figure out if anyone else has had experiences with this.
