The love you felt for Barnaby will never be replaced by a new puppy. I still remember my First dog Schatzie a $15 mutt that was so ugly everyone laghed at her and called her a "show dog". I still think about her  and laugh about her antics and feel sad that she is gone and she has been at the bridge over 25 years. Charlie the Sheltie and my Andy another Sheltie who passed in my arms at the vet are still alive in my heart. I now have Bubba and Penny and Cooper and I love all three with my whole being but they have not even come close to replacing the other three.
 
Barnaby would not want you to be so sad. I am sure that he would want you to again feel the love and affection that another Basset puppy will bring into your life. Our dogs have hude hearts and are never afraid to share their favorite human with another. Barnaby will let you know when you have grieved enough for him and he will howl with joy when you find the right Basset puppy toshare your heart with. 
 
Remember that Barnaby would only want the best for you as you would for him.
