[Dailydrool] Drooley stuff

I was helping with a transport of Cassie (a sweet senior basset traveling
through Missouri on her way to her adoptive home) last Saturday.  The
meeting place was a local Cracker Barrel parking lot.  As I was getting
Cassie settled in my car, a person called over.  I looked up to see a woman
sitting in a truck with "St. Charles Animal Control" sign on it.  The AC
officer asked me if that was my basset.  I explained I was helping with a
transport.  Her response was "really? for a rescue?"  I walked over to her
truck.  She asked me if I knew of a rescue that took bassets.  Silly
question!

I knew their shelter was a high-kill shelter so my mind was racing - who
could I reach that afternoon? where could these dogs get vetted?  I asked a
few questions - most important if there was a "pts" date on them.  She
radioed in to ask about their status.  My heart sunk when the response was
"they're gone."  Immediately I asked "gone as in gone" or "gone as in
adopted."  The person on the other end heard me and replied "they gone got
themselves adopted."  I was so relieved.  I gave her a GABR business card to
which I added my personal contact info to it.  As I walked away, I heard her
on the radio again.  She was telling the person on the other end "these
basset people are serious about rescue."  Aren't we though?
