[Dailydrool] smelly basset

My Fendi is just 7 months old - she seems to have a stronger smell than my dear Barnaby who went to the bridge in September last.
I was reading the archives of droolers and someone mentioned shampooing them in plain Pantene shampoo - the person said that she hasn't had that "basset smell" since. Has anyone else tried this - would using a normal shampoo dry out their fur? Or does anyone have a secret remedy to lessen the smell. Thanks all.
