[Dailydrool] Dog won't eat

I have never had a foster who wouldn't eat, but whenever I left Belvedere at home and had someone come in the house to feed and otherwise care for the hounds, he would refuse to eat for three or four days. After that, he'd decide that food was too good to pass up and start eating.

If it's only been a few days, I think I would not worry too much. It's a sign of grieving that should end soon.

Fostering a dog who has been truly attached to a family can be heartbreaking. I've had dogs stand at the door and ask to go home--Alexis would also go to vans and trucks and ask to get in, probably because they were the same model cars her former humans drove.

If people could see the dog's grief, I wonder if they'd give one up. In the long run it may be better for a hound to get a new home where it's better cared for. Still, a dog never forgets a home it has truly loved.
