Despite brain-boiling heat, close to 200 people showed up to Nashville's
Centennial Park on June 4 with about 75 to 100 dogs. It was the largest
turnout ever for the event which is now in its third year.

We ate hot dogs, listened to live music by the Americana duo Smoke and
Flowers, auctioned off 75 to 100 items, sold t-shirts and watched basset
hounds compete in the Longest Ear Contest, Shortest Legs Contest, and the
Hot Dog Catching Contest. We made close to *$4,000* for the hounds, and we
made the local TV news.

And we sweated.

Congratulations to all the volunteers who made this event a smashing
success. A special shout out goes to:

   - *Seena Walker* for rounding up a van-load of auction items and door
   prizes
   - *Seena's cousin* for manning the grill on such a hot day and turning
out hot dogs and burgers for the hound faithful.
   - *Smoke and Flowers* for the live music and the assist with emceeing
   - *Dave Prather* for being our emcee, parade leader, and event organizer
   - *Ginny Winter* and *Anne Jacoby* for running the Hound Dog Games
   - *Ginny Winter, Scott Warnke, Seena Walker, Seena's friend Rhonda, Lin
Bennett* and her sister *Norma*, and *Susan Brown* for running the
   auction.
   - *Everyone* who donated items for the auction.
   - *Cathy Hileman* who made some great gift baskets that were among the
   most popular items
   - *Lin Bennett* for ordering a special doggie cake for the party.
   - *Brenda Gilliam* for creating a boffo design for the t-shirt.
   - *Dave Prather's friend Melvin* for getting us a great rate on the
   shirts.
   - *Daphne Evans* for bringing prizes for the dogs who won the contests.
   - T*he local film crew* who came out filmed the event for the evening
   news in Nashville.
   - *All of you who came out *with your dogs to see the single largest
gathering of basset hounds in all of Tennessee.

We couldn't help these hounds without you!

It was great fun! We can help a lot of needy hounds with these proceeds.
Thanks to all of you, and mark your calendars for next year.
