Seems like I'm having to play catch up alot more these days. I've been reading and catching up on drool news whenever I get a chance so I haven't posted in a while .

The LowDownHounds of Oakrydge Bassets are sending huge Snakey Rivers of Idaho drool to ALL those in need of healing their hearts, minds or bodies be they two or four leggers. I was very sad to read of the loss of Pat and Sandi's beautiful puppy boy and yet so grateful the rest were all okay. We are keeping Pat in our thoughts and prayers. May she get through this illness and be able to come home very soon.

I agree that we can have a greater impact if we ban together and vote for one rescue on each shelter challenge. I think every rescue could use the money but I'm sure the smaller ones have a more difficult time raising funds and keeping t he money coming in. Both Loozianna and Wyoming sound like good choices. I will vote for whomever is decided upon. I agree  it could get confusing trying to vote for two at the same time.

Years ago I remember having a puppy born here with a pretty severe overbite. It looked much worse as a puppy than it did when she was mature. She never had any problem eating or drinking but she did make a mess when she drank from the water bowls. It is referred to as "parrot mouth" since the upper jaw is longer than the lower jaw and overlaps like a parrots beak does. It is a genetic defect but is not detrimental to an otherwise healthy pup. Your new girl should do fine.

Water dogs - I've had a couple of dogs over the years that drank water excessively. Matter of fact, I have one now that will literally empty a  bowl of fresh water that I put down especially first thing in the morning. I'm careful that she doesn't overdo it since hearing that they could bloat that way. Tawni is 12 yrs. old now but she has always drank more water than any of the others here. It can be a symptom of some diseases so it is good to have that checked out especially since she has the history you described.

We hope that Esa's puppies are doing well and that Vickie is having  much less pain and is able to care for and enjoy loving on them and playing with them. Wish I were close enough to go help spoil them but Pennsylvania is a long long way from Idaho. I love raising a litter of puppies and I'm hoping to have a litter born here this summer. My last puppies turned two years old in March.

My big mahogany and white basset boy Maverick who was being returned by his family, has been moved from southern California up to northern California where he is staying with a friend and her family and bassets. In fact, his half brother lives there. We are looking for a forever home for Maverick. He is a wonderful sweet easy going BIG smooshy boy who loves to sit in a recliner and be loved on. Since arriving, he has had a much needed bath and has made himself right at home. He is being lovingly cared for and I'm so grateful that he is there now. The rest of the bassets just said "welcome Maverick" when he arrived. No one even snarled at him once. We will bring him back to Idaho if the right home has not been found soon and we can arrange a ride for him. Thank you to all those who emailed offers to help retrieve him. I will be keeping in touch  with those who thought they may be headed this direction sometime this summer. It would wonderful if we could have him a home waiting for him when he arrives.
