[Dailydrool] Question For You

Basil is completely deaf, and we go to the dog park all the time. To be honest,
I don't really have to do much of anything - because he can't hear, Basil is a
velcro dog, always insisting that he be within sight of me. So I never worry
about needing to get his attention, or him getting away from me.

That said, a friend has a deaf dog who really does like to roam the park. She
found this little remote-controlled vibrating thingie on an elastic band that
goes around his belly like a belt. When she needs to "call" him, she clicks the
remote and he feels the vibrations. Obviously she needed to do quite a bit of
training, and the remote control does have a limited range, but it does work. I
can't remember what the device is called, and don't even know if it's
specifically designed for dogs. I'll see if I can find out.

This is a question for all you Basset owners......Do you have a DEAF Basset??
Not just a regular Basset that hears and still ignores you but one that is
completely without hearing. A friend of mine is working with her deaf Boxer and
was wondering how you work with your Basset in a social atmosphere with other
dogs (such as the off-lead picnic at the Waddle). Do you let it completely free
or do you just keep them on a long lead so you can get their attention.

Thank you!!
