[Dailydrool] Snoopy at the vet

Well, our Snoopy boy is certainly high maintenence.  He gets a bath every week
and gets his ears washed every week.  He wears sunscreen on his tummy.  He is
VERY attractive to fleas (we suspect because he spends so much time laying in
the grass) so we have to use advantage every 4-6 weeks.  We go 8-12 weeks with
Cyrus but when we tried that with Snoopy he got fleas and then he got tape worms
and we had to worm them both so Snoopy is every 4-6 weeks.  He gets itchy bumps
on his belly sometimes and we use either aloe or else hyrdocorizone on that.

Well, he was worrying and itching at the base of his tail.  I checked last night
and there was something under the skin and I couldn't help him so I took him to
the vet this morning.  The vet said he had sort of bacterial infection but we'd
caught it at the start.  He was able to clean it up/out without having to shave
him (used a syringe and a team of 3 ... Snoopy didn't cry out but they wouldn't
let me watch) and gave us a blue solution to apply 3 times a day.  The bottle
says it is Chlorhexiderm.  Anybody ever heard of this stuff before?  I asked the
vet why this occured and he said its the breed.  He said we are doing well with
the baths and the ears but that bassets coat really holds water so if something
bites him and it itches and he chews the saliva feeds the bacteria and never
really drys out and festers and yuck.

They are doing a heartworm test too because they didn't want to bother him with
a needle when we adopted him back in Jan but he was such a good boy today they
decided to get it done.  No Heartworm drool please.

thanks,
Dale
