Some Bassets (and other dogs especially Labs) can eat anything without a
problem.
Our first Basset ate, among other things:
one whole popsicle stick
one bath sized bar of Dove soap, whole (Swallowed it)
1/4 pound of Eucerin hand cream (nearly killed him)
1 lego man
1 large leather and catnip mouse (whole)
Other than the hand cream, which was a petroleum product and really did
almost kill him with pancreatitis, none of the other items had any effect at
all.
A dish of ice cream also caused severe pancreatitis.

I have found, in excrement as I pick up: chewed up crayons, mutil-colored
foam rubber from a footstool, one whole man's crew sock, probably a total of
an entire roll of paper towels one towel at a time, small rocks.
Two things I never did find were a $20 bill and a $50 bill. (same dog).

Other dogs eat one piece of bacon, or a piece of rawhide, or cat food and
are desperately ill.

I do always supervise rawhides and bones. When the pieces become swallowable
or choke-able, they are removed but then none of my dogs objects to this.
Getting a dead squirrel away from one of them is serious business, but they
don't seem to prize the rawhides that highly unless, of course, it is
another dog attempting to steal it. (Another good reason to supervise.)
Ideally I would give them bones in their crates but when I try this they
"save" the bones until I open the crate door. Humf.

MomPerson to Nigel, Llewis, Conley and Cooper (the boy with the expensive
taste.)
