Is Gus's weight good and you want to maintain it, or has he gotten a little fluffy?  If he's good, then you shouldn't need to do anything different unless you just want to change his food or include more variety.  If he's fluffy, reduce his intake!  Our first basset was 85 pounds when I first met him.  Our vet made a fist of his hand and said that was about the size of a serving he needed - and I think we only fed him once a day.  That is very vague, but the point is, by reducing the amount, and NOT following the directions on the package, Sam eventually got down to 60-65 pounds, and he wasn't thin, just medium.  After he died we have had three bassets, one died prematurely due to intestinal blockage, and the other two, Charlie and Lucy, are with us now.  They only weigh 35-40 pounds, and they seem neither small nor underweight.  They get fed twice a day and treats all the time.  But their treats are veggies and fruit, which they love, and their diet is homemade raw plus a grain free dry kibble and I recently added pumpkin, thanks to posts in the drool about pumpkin alleviating anal gland problems which Charlie is prone to.   Charlie came to live with us as an adult of unknown age, and his teeth and coat have greatly improved on this diet, he has gained weight, and he is much less hyper than when he arrived.;
Lucy was half grown when we adopted her, and she has grown into a sleek and elegant young lady. -- okay that is a bit of a stretch, she is striving for a transfer from her position as PBF hospitality specialist to the ASTT unit.
In response to the person who ordered treats from Cesar Milan's site, I couldn't help but chuckle at the thought of basset owners applying Cesar's tactics to training bassets. My husband and I love to watch his shows, and I have a lot of respect for his talent, but we also laugh at ourselves and our lax attitude towards our hounds' manners: particularly when they are skooching us out of OUR bed!
Drool to those in need, and NO RAIN for the Waddlers in Michigan!
Susan, loving slave to Lucy(mommie ders squirrlz out der!), Charlie (the counter-TOP cruiser), and Otie (I am definitely NOT a basset, hmmmf!)
