[Dailydrool] spaying and poison control

It is almost never too late to spay or neuter a dog or cat IMHO. I guess I
would draw the line if the dog was very elderly and not in good health. I
mean that's a consideration, of course. Breeders I know keep their breeding
bitches intact until the age of about 6 or 7 and then spay them. You want
to spay them by then, I think (*I* think) because of the risk of pyometra.
If I am neutering males I wait until after they have gotten their
championships or at about two. Some of my males end up never getting
neutered but they are confined to home so neither are they contributing to
canine overpopulation.

Poison Control charges a nominal fee for their services. They have to pay
someone to answer the phone. Despite what we might like, they do not sit
there all night on a weekend when they could be home with families or out
partying out of the goodness of their little hearts. You can put it on a
credit card. I personally have paid hundreds of dollars to find out that
this or that is totally harmless. LOL. The cost of dog ownership.

You can often google some of it, but I would rather hear it from the pros.
