[Dailydrool] Shelter Challenge & this & that

I was so hoping that BaRCSE would be this weeks winner in the Shelter
Challenge. I don't know why we were skipped unless they don't award the
weekly prize to two rescues in the same state. To say I'm disappointed is
an understatement because BaRCSE sure could use the money for the hounds.
All of you have been wonderfully supportive and I hope you will continue to
vote so that we might catch up and get back into first place.

I'm always kind of disappointed when I read a note from someone in rescue
who is obviously unsupportive of another rescue, especially when
both rescues goals are the same. In this case, the goal is to save as many
basset hounds as we are able to. Honestly, I think it would be great to
have two or three basset hound rescues in every state so that there would
never be even one hound left in any shelter. I don't believe that having
two similar rescues in the same state is a competition....it's just more
hands rescuing more hounds. I also don't think that a new rescue is any
less worthy of the DD's support than a more established rescue is. I
sincerely hope that no one else ever tries to undermine another rescues
chance in the Shelter Challenge in the future. People who do so make their
home rescue look bad and I would hate for anyone to think badly of the
other basset hound rescue in SC. They do a tremendous amount of good for
the hounds and one person does not represent the whole rescue. I believe
there is strength in numbers and the DD has proved that multiple times with
the Shelter Challenge so I'm still hopeful that we can pull it off this
time. It will be a wonderful gift for the hounds if we do. Personally, I'm
going to vote for the basset hound rescue that the DD chooses, regardless
if they're in our same state or not. As Nigel would say, nuf said.

The DH and I have had some interesting experiences with Christmas trees. I
love a BIG tall tree and love to put all the things that the kids and
grandkids have made on it. Unfortunately, we've had our trees go over
several times because one of the cats tried to climb it. What a mess! We've
really scaled down over the past few years starting when Suzy came to us as
a puppy. We just got a little Charlie Brown tree for several years that sat
on a tv stand until she and Ginger "matured". Last year was the first year
that we had a tree sitting on the floor that didn't end up on it's side. We
don't have glass decorations so we didn't have to worry about that but we
were very concerned about the hooks on a few things. Surprisingly, the
hounds actually left the tree alone. The cats (Pete ATB & MInnie) swatted
at the things dangling towards the bottom but I was really impressed that
the Houndettes didn't sample a few ornaments. I'm not too sure what we're
going to do this year if Tybee is still here. He definitely does not
have his big boy brains yet and is curious about everything. Plus he's a
chewy boy so it could get pretty interesting. The jingle bell idea is
wonderful and I'm seriously thinking about using that one!

I think we've all had a chocolate experience or two. Jersey was ours the
first Halloween she was here. Fortunately, it was the lighter chocolate
that she got and our vet said she'd be ok without making her vomit but we
could feel her heart racing for a couple of days afterwards. Since all of
our hounds seem to grow six feet tall when they're on their back legs and
have six foot long tongues, we don't leave any of that kind of stuff on the
counters any more.

Heart healing drool laced with prayers from me to all in need.
