Hi, today when I came home, I noticed a spot about the size of a doller
bill, what looked like diluted blood that someone threw up. Not far from
that, was a larger area, same color with spit. Hubby told me the bassets had
been sleeping in the house all day, Scooby was the only one out. Scooby
went to poop, and out shot blood, red, not tarry. And no poop.
Off to the vet's we rushed, and he took blood to check the kidneys and
liver.
Her gums are nice and pink as well as eye lids. 2 days earlier, my dad
was trying to be kiind, and he gave Scooby his 2 pieces of raisin cinnamon
bread!
Not a lot of raisins in the bread, but enough to give her some toxicity.
Blood work came back normal, no damage to the organs. We came home with
medication to stop the vomiting and the diarhea, which helped immediately. I
could hear her tummy making all kinds of awful noises. He said her stomach
and intestines are probably very sore and maybe a little raw.
She is on an extremely bland diet for the next few days, and nothing else.
He said she could have water, if she kept it down. After awhile, she
drank water, so I gave her a tsp. of the special canned food. Five minutes
later, it all came up. So nothing now till morning. The pill is supposed to
also calm down and coat the tummy. Her back legs were shaking some, I
called the vet again, and he said she is probably feeling a little pain, but her
tummy cannot handle anything more at this tiime.
It has been 4 hrs. now, and no more diarhea or throwing up, however she is
nauseated some, she licks her lips, and she is acting sad.I feel so
helpless, she has never ever been sick in her 9 yrs. She is 80 lb. black lab, a
smaller dog may not have made it. So please sling some healthy drool this
way, she really needs it, and her very worried mommy.........
