Giving a new dog a name of our own choosing is one of the ways we  
make a dog our own. None of our bassets have had any trouble adapting  
to a new name with us. When you think about it, we humans have  
multiple names, whether they be nicknames or our formal names. When  
my dad called me "Sweetheart" and my grandma called me "Kitty-Kat," I  
knew they both meant me, even though they're very different names.  
I'm positive our dogs are able to handle different people calling  
them by different names, too.
