Hi Kathy.

We just had a lump removed from Phoebe's neck. She is 12 yrs old and
developed this lump about a year ago. Lately it has gotten bigger so they
biopsied it and there were some questionable cells that they said would
most likely become malignant. They recommended it be removed. When they got
in there the tumor was encapsulated and attached to the trachea which they
removed easily from the trachea. The difficult part was that the tumor was
being fed by blood vessels from her neck and they had to cut into these and
reconnect them after getting the tumor out. It was not an easy surgery and
there was a lot of blood loss during the surgery. But she has since done
well and is healing nicely. Its been about 8 days since the surgery. The
hard part at home was keeping her from scratching at the incision. The vet
was worried she'd be too rough and possibly rip or tear one of those blood
vessals open. We rolled a beach towel into a tootsie roll shape and she
wore that around her middle like an inner tube. It kept her from lifting
that hind leg forward to scratch under her chin or on her neck. It was a
challenge because she would rub herself along the sofa until she could roll
that towel over her hips and she'd step out of it.

That is all I can tell you about it. Hopefully it will be a simple
procedure for Jake
