[Dailydrool] Cushings Help Please

Good Morning:

I don't often post, but read every digest daily and laugh and cry with all of the good and bad news about our beloved hounds. Now I need the continued knowledge of this list, as if it hadn't been for my research and this list, she'd still be suffering. I'm hoping to get as much help as possible for my Sally, who has "just" and I use "just" lightly, with Cushings. Over a year ago Sally started drinking excessively and I immediately went to my vet with the idea she had Cushings because of what I've learned from this list. To make a long story very short, he did expensive blood work and pretty much "mocked" me because she had a low alk phos and none of the classic Cushings symptoms. I STUPIDLY listened to him when he told me I'd be throwing away $350 for testing. Well, push came to shove last week. I demanded the test and told him I'd be happy to "waste" $350 and be wrong. Today I got the news that she does indeed have Cushings. Not only am I horribly guilt-ridden over waiting a year and just knowing how awful she must have been feeling for this year to be so thirsty and hungry all of the time, I'm also very angry at my vet and will probably make a change, but right now I need to put Sally first and get her the medication she needs.

If any of you have ideas, hints, anything at all that will make this initial treatment phase easier on Sally, please feel free to email me off list. I know I'd be so appreciative and I know Sally will be as well. I need to get beyond the guilt and anger quickly.

Thanks in advance!
